Creative workshop – Quai des artsAdmission:
$25 (limit of 10 participants). Reserved for people over 12 years oldStephen Jerome offers you the chance to learn the basic techniques of traditional round basket weaving: crafting the base, setting the uprights, building the walls, finishing the rim, and adding a handle if time permits. Each participant will leave with a basket made with their own hands.
In his workshop in Gesgapegiag, Stephen Jerome continues the tradition of Mi’kmaq basket making. This artisanal knowledge has been passed down from father to son for generations. Sadly, this ancestral skill is endangered.
“I'm the only one in the world doing this full time. Some elders still know how to do it, but they can’t anymore due to physical limitations.”
- S. Jerome
